Eco ClubThe Eco Team has recently been clearing out the pond and over the past few weeks we have noticed some wildlife coming to our pond. We have further plans for the pond area; including a gateway from the eco-corridor, further clearing of the far end and putting down of either bark chip or decking to make an area suitable for a table, or two, for children to work on, and a platform/bridge to cross the pond enabling easier viewing of the pond life.
Our future aims in the Eco Team are to put up some bat, bird and bug boxes in the wildlife corridor, plant some wild meadow grasses and flowers and help to cultivate the recently planted willows to screen off the unsightly gas tank. All of these will help to attract wildlife into our school grounds and provide a beautiful area for the school to study.
The Eco Team also works to reduce electricity consumption by turning off lights and appliances when not needed, collecting rubbish around the school and recycling paper waste. Now that the weather is improving perhaps you can help the environment by considering walking or cycling to school or perhaps sharing a car with others.
We meet on a Thursday after school until 4:30pm and sessions will run until the summer half term. (For the remaining half term they will meet on Friday lunchtime.) Can you think of activities or ideas we could work on and let one of the team know?
