Book wars leaflet

Dirty Beasts - we wrote our own rhyming couplets about a dirty beast we had invented. We then illustrated our Dirty Beasts in water colour.

Our Science topic this half term is 'Light and Shadow'. This week we set up a fair test to find out which material would be most suitable for a new book bag design. We found that foil was the most reflective.

In English, we have been reading Roald Dahl's Dirty Beasts. We have created our own and have written a short story and poems about them. We have now painted our Dirty Beasts in water colour. Coming soon to our Art gallery!

Our new History topic is 'The Romans'

There is a new homework challenge on Google classroom.  The children have been learning about inverted commas to show speech.  Can they write a kind comment on Google classroom in the correct area, using the correct speech punctuation?

In Science, we have been learning about different types of skeletons; we then compared animals' skeletons to our own. We are also learning the names of the bones in our bodies.

WANTED! Sheep Rustlers! A terrible crime has been committed, all of Elm class are suspects! Their fingerprints have been taken and we hope to discover who is the sheep rustler!

Christmas craft has started in Elm class!

Fantastic Mr Fox - the children created some brilliant settings which helped them to produce some wonderfully innovated writing about 'Wonderful Mr Weasel'

Year 3 Sleepover at school. A super opportunity to try different activities such as fire-making, orienteering, arts and even making our own beds! The night was rounded off by a sing-song around the campfire with smores! Delicious!

Elm class had a wonderful afternoon at the Kingfisher Project field trip. The children astounded me with their knowledge and their impeccable behaviour was commented on by all of the Kingfisher Project volunteers.

A very warm welcome to the Elm class page.  In Elm class, Mrs Lane is our teacher and she is supported by Mrs Edwards.  We would love to share our learning with you, so please check this class page for regular updates.

We rescheduled 'French Friday' this week to 'French Thursday' as we had a very important French visitor.

We have taken full advantage of the sunshine for our science topic. The children produced some amazing artwork.

Measurement and perimeter

Elm class turned the rock cycle into a choc cycle today. We created magma (melted chocolate), exposed our chocolate to erosion and created sediment (grated chocolate) and then added more layers for our sedimentary rock (Rice Krispies and marshmallows). We then heated our rock to see it's changes (metamorphic rock).

We had fantastic fun creating our theatre boxes to stage our shows starring Mozart and Lloyd-Webber!

Fantastic fossils that the children made

We have been studying Vincent Van Gogh. We used oil pastels to create our own sunflower artwork.

We have been rock detectives! We have discovered the characteristics of rocks, are they permeable? Do they sink or float? These clues helped us to find out what type of rock they were.

There has been a crime committed in Elm class! We have photo-fits of the suspects and have taken fingerprints. Who are the sheep-rustlers?

Wow! What a fantastic finale to our Ancient Greece topic! We prepared a feast of Greek food that we shared with Willow class and the children performed their Greek dance routines! Opa!

The children designed and crafted Grecian pottery, the attention to detail was outstanding!

Elm class had a visit from some amazing scientists today. We learnt lots of fantastic facts about the Earth, the Sun and the stars. We have some budding astronomers in class!

Remembrance Day

In RE we have been learning about different religions. This week we made kippahs as part of our study of the Jewish faith.

The opening ceremony

Ancient Olympics. What an amazing, fun-filled afternoon. The olympics began with a procession following the Olympic torch. Our first event was the chariot race, we then moved outside to throw the javelin. This was shortly followed by the foot races where the competitors had to run in full armour! Our final event was the discus. Our closing ceremony took place in the hall with the winning teams' captains receiving an olive crown and leading the closing parade!

In Science we are learning about different types of skeletons. We had great fun finding all the bones in our bodies and then putting together a skeleton as a team.

Hazel class came to test our knowledge on Greece with some fantastic facts. They even tried to trick us with some false information, but there was no fooling Elm class.

We are reading 'The Magic Treehouse, Olympic challenge'. We got into roles as characters from the book to help with our understanding and innovation of the story.

Elm class have become travel agents, in groups they have researched an island of their choice, created a poster and presented their island to the class. The group's intention was for their island to be where everyone would like to visit.

The children celebrated Roald Dahl day in style with some fantastic and original outfits!

  • 3 times table We have been learning and practising our 3 times table.  Please use the link for our funky 3 times table song to the tune of 'Uptown Funk'. It may drive you crazy, but it's a great way for the children to learn.

Elm class have began immersing themselves in their new topic. Taking on the roles of evacuees and practicing air raid drills. We have also built an Anderson shelter in our classroom.
